What can I do to help the East Run Hellbenders Society?

There’s so much to do. Our biggest hurdles are educating and building strength in numbers.

Corporations continue to use federal agencies like the EPA and the DEP to regulate and permit activities that would be illegal otherwise. Poor, rural townships like Grant Township are “not allowed” to assert our individual rights and our local government because state laws favor the rights of corporations. Corporations believe its rights preempt our rights and judges rule proportionally more often in favor of corporations. This system must change.

Grant Township is now a Home Rule Municipality with a Charter that rights-based – a first in the US. Our Charter bans a regulated harm – a Class IID injection well proposed by a drilling company (Pennsylvania General Energy, LLC, of Warren, PA) – which is suing Grant Township in federal court and the lawsuit is ongoing.
